The numerous rallies and protest marches happening in our nation’s capital today seemed quite impossible just a couple of years ago. If you didn’t notice, these protest rallies had its beginnings after Pres. Benigno “P-Noy” Aquino III signed the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill into law after a very long and divisive debate by the Filipino Catholic faithful, where even the so-called Princes of the Catholic Church were not in unison in this fight for the unborn and to keep the Filipino family intact.
However with all due respect, the majority of the clergy together with lay organizations fought and prayed very hard that we would win this spiritual battle between good and evil. Alas in the end, we lost that battle. But like what we’ve been saying all along, this war is far from over and thanks to the Supreme Court (SC) they removed the penalty clauses that would have made the RH Bill a very oppressive law. Now it is a toothless law!
Few people remember that the RH bill was sent to Malacañang Palace early in December 2015 and it was signed on Dec. 21 and the news released on Dec. 28. Why December? To us Catholics, December 8 is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and this was out in the press on Dec. 28, which ironically is the observance of Holy Innocents Day. Call it coincidence or was it a final insult to the Blessed Virgin Mary in whose many apparitions always warn humankind to protect life and family.
Then came the tumultuous visit by Pope Francis and in the Encounter with the Families at the Arena in the Mall of Asia, where the Pope warned us about the “Ideological colonization” of family life especially when Congress pushes for the legalization of same-sex marriage and the use of contraception, which has been embodied in the RH Law. But few people inside the Arena understood what the Pope meant. This is why during his return flight back to Rome, the Pope had to explain to the press what ideological colonization was all about. Now we know that we’ve been “colonized!”
The root of the RH Law is the best example of ideological colonization because this was one law that was not crafted by any Filipino legislator or a member of Congress. Someone in the Aquino regime merely copied what RH laws they had in the US or in the United Nations (UN); repackaged it and called it our own RH Bill. But in truth it is a foreign law not a Filipino law.
While I was writing this piece, I was watching CNN and BBC when they came up with a live telecast of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu’s speech before a joint session of the US Congress and what a great speech he delivered where (I gathered that some democrats did not show up) he openly told the American legislators of Iran’s “Tentacles of terror” where it is supporting terrorism in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon with the Hezbollah and if left unchecked they could have nuclear arms very soon.
The Israeli Prime Minister implicitly charged US Pres. Barack Obama who is seeking a deal with Iran saying “The deal Mr. Obama seeks will not prevent a nuclear-armed Iran, but will all guarantee it. We must all stand together to stop Iran’s march of conquest, subjugation and terror.” Netanyahu’s speech was interrupted so many times by an applauding Congress giving him a standing ovation. What a great speech!
Perhaps we should ask Israeli Ambassador Ephraim Ben Matityau to invite Prime Minister Netanyahu to come to the Philippines and use the same speech because if you changed the name of Iran to MILF and remove the nuclear issues, they are very similar to our problems with the MILF and the BBL. All we need is a Netanyahu type of man to warn the Filipino people about the dangers of having a deal with the MILF and giving them the BBL. What I especially liked in Netanyahu’s speech was when he warned Congress that, “The enemy of your enemy is your enemy!”
Surely by now our readers must have seen parallels in Pres. Aquino and his friend, US Pres. Barack Obama. First, both were electronically elected when electronic voting (was it already Smartmatic?) was used in the Chicago elections. We had ours in the 2010 elections. Both fully agree on the Reproductive Health issues, which is why Pres. Obama sent then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to sell the RH issues to the Philippines dangling a string called the $424 million millennium fund if we had the bill approved and we took the bait!
Pres. Obama is forcing that “bad” deal with Iran, which has forced Netanyahu to go to the US Congress… and P-Noy is forcing the “bad” peace deal with the MILF giving them the BBL. Of course the major difference between the two is that Pres. Obama does not control Congress, while here at home, Congress is but a rubber stamp of the President. Finally, both Presidents openly lie to their constituents. They’re birds of the same feather.
