Taiwan poaching on Philippine waters and PCG gets punished for it

By  Rod P. Kapunan

The country finally gave in to the pressure from the Taiwanese government to charge the members of the Philippine Coast Guard who fired at the Taiwanese vessel that killed one poacher or thief to our marine resources. On top of it, we have to compensate the family of that thief and make an official apology for what we did (catching them while stealing our fish right inside our territorial waters).

We have to swallow our pride and dignity because it seems we are under pressure from the exporters of our own people to Taiwan for the simple reason that our government could not provide them employment. Selling our people abroad (to Taiwan) is like hitting three birds with one stone. First, it solves the problem of employment by passing it on to other countries. Second, our people work hard just for this government to earn more without it giving them anything in return. Third, their hard earned foreign exchange remittances help finance their huge pork barrel to allow our politicians and accomplices to live like kings and queens.

But behind all these is the pressure by the US government for us to consolidate our alliance with Taiwan by serving as its sub boyscout to effectively contain China in the China Sea.

Maintaining a coordinated military alliance with Taiwan is advantageous and militarily economical to the US to further advance its Pivot to Asia policy. In effect, we have become an errand boy to an errand boy.

Such pathetic conduct of a good for nothing government is unprecedented because the apology and compensation amounts to a relinquishment of dignity, sovereignty, and of our right to protect our territorial waters. The greatest insult is we allow these Taiwanese to come and sue our soldiers right in our own backyard, something only a government afflicted with acute insanity would do!
