Malacañang on Thursday dismissed a report saying that President Benigno Aquino III used alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles to convince lawmakers to convict former Chief Justice Renato Corona and pass the controversial Reproductive Health (RH) Law.
“Hindi na namin sasagutin itong mga sabi-sabi. Unang-una, hindi namin kilala si Janet Napoles. Si Pangulong Aquino, hindi niya kilala si Janet Napoles, so ano itong mga pinagsasabi?” presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said during a press conference on Thursday.
He was reacting to a column in The Manila Standard Today quoting an unknown source who said Napoles told him that Aquino tasked her to convince lawmakers to convict Corona and pass the RH Law.
Earlier, however, Aquino had said that he doesn’t even remember meeting Napoles before the scam was discovered.
On Thursday, Lacierda said the people behind the story are just “riding” on the pork barrel scam issue.
“Marami ho tayong mga hinaharap ngayon, ang ating pamahalaan, katulad dito sa Zamboanga. Marami hong sa tingin ko ay sumasakay dito sa mga issues na nanggugulo,” he said.
“Ang mahalaga po—and I can tell you this categorically—this government will do the right thing,” he added.
Lacierda also said the Palace will just wait for the supposed exposé by two opposition senators next week.
“We will just listen to the privilege speech. We don’t know..what they will be speaking of,” he said. — BM, GMA News
