The daughter of resigned Interior Undersecretary Rico Puno has taken the cudgels for her embattled dad, defending him from accusations while slamming a certain “Mr. Man” for trying to bring her father down.
In a post on her blog dated September 11, Romina “Inna” Puno also said her family is proud that her father had kept his silence, but upset that he resigned from his post. (He finally consented to a lengthy news interview with Jessica Soho Tuesday night)
“Our family never once used this so called ‘power’ or ‘unique relationship’ with the President for our advantage. We still live in the same house, we have the same crew, the same cars, and the same standard of living. We still prefer staying at home and eating lunch on Sundays. We live simply, and we will die simple. My father is not a politician and we are not a political family,” she said.
Puno had resigned from his post days as lawmaker were prearing to investigate his alleged involvement in irregularities at the Interior Department. A Senate investigation to be chaired by Sen. Miriam Santiago has been scheduled for Friday.
Addressing ‘Mr. Man’
Inna Puno would only name as “Mr. Man” the one who she said is trying to bring her father down.
“(Y)ou know who you are, as I will call you Mr. Man, you may look good, you may have good intentions, but how dare you, enter our home, eat our food, and mingle with our family, only to what? WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO YOU TO DESERVE THIS KIND OF TREATMENT? How do you sleep at night knowing that you are ruining a man’s life only to reach a certain position?” she said.
She also denounced a “specific (TV) network” whose reporting she questioned. She did not name the network but said one of its staff was “related to somebody.”
“(Y)ou may be the most popular network now, but if the People finally realize how you CHOOSE to report on NEWS like that, and if you CHOOSE to do it JUST BECAUSE ONE OF YOUR STAFF is related to somebody, shame on you, and shame on the way you report and ruin people’s lives. I CAN NEVER TRUST YOU, AND SO WILL OTHER PEOPLE,” she said.
Inna said she initially created her blog for friends and family who wanted to be updated about her life as a foreigner in Sydney, Australia.
But she maintained the blog to “vent out and tell you how i think life is unfair and fair about working for the government.”
Upset at quitting
On her blog, Inna said she was “quite upset” that her father resigned from his post, saying he had “come so far, he’s done so much, and for what?”
But she also said her family was proud of him because he “kept silent” and “let the people think for themselves as different facts were unraveled as each day passes.”
“And after all that bad news, he was the only one smiling at home,” she said.
She said her father could have quit after seeing his relatives being stressed and upset for him.
She also said her father’s silence may have been due to his experience in the August 2010 hostage crisis in Manila, where eight Hong Kong tourists were killed along with a policeman who took them hostage.
“I guess it’s when he learned from the bus incident that no matter what he says, the media will turn it in a way that he is still to blame. But really, if you ask yourself, if you really REALLY think about it, WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE WHO KEEP TRYING TO PUT HIM DOWN?” she said.
A daughter’s gratitude
Inna thanked the people who were there by the Puno family’s side, and who are still with them.
“Thank you so much for the support, for the love, and for all the prayers. It made us stronger each day. It made us believe that we still had our ‘kakampi’ with us. It made us wake up each day knowing that our true friends are here for us,” she said.
She also thanked her father’s security for still being there to protect him.
“You kept him safe for us, you let us sleep better every time he goes home safe. thank you so much, and although we are truly sad that you are to leave your post, i hope you know that we all treat you as our extended family,” she said. –KG/RSJ, GMA News
